The Beverly Hillbillies was a long running American sitcom that aired from 1962 to 1971. The show starred Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan and Donna Douglas as Jed Clampett and his family who strike oil and move from the Ozarks to Beverly Hills, California after inheriting a fortune.

Other cast members included Max Baer Jr., Jim Nabors, Nancy Kulp and Raymond Bailey. Episodes of the show often involved Granny or other members of the family scheming or getting into trouble with other residents of Beverly Hills including Mr Drysdale and Miss Hathaway (who also moved from the Ozarks).

What is this I hear about an upcoming film?

According to IMDB.com , an upcoming film about the Beverly Hillbillies is in the works. The film has not yet been given a title, nor has any cast or crew information been made available. The IMDB page lists an estimated release date in 2013, but this seems unlikely to be correct as it would equal 12 years since the previous movie was released.

Which members of the original series are likely to appear?

The above mentioned recent death of Donna Douglas makes it highly unlikely that she will appear in an upcoming movie. Buddy Ebsen’s age and health at time of writing means he is unlikely to appear either, plus he was only involved with 2 seasons of the show so his character would have little room for exploration. Jim Nabors may be confirmed soon due to his own recent health concerns.

Are the Clampetts the only characters likely to be included?

It seems that Mr Drysdale, Miss Hathaway and Jethro Bodine will all feature in the film. Following Buddy Ebsen’s death, Glen Campbell – who played private detective Burrell Babbit in “The Beverly Hillbillies” spin-off show “Bunny” (1965) is likely to replace him as banker Milburn Drysdale.

Nancy Kulp also passed away in 1991 so another actress will have to replace her as Mrs Jane Hathaway. Based on his prominent role in The Brady Bunch Movie it looks like Max Baer Jr may get this role over Jaid Barrymore (who played A.J in “Bunny”).

What about Granny and Jethro?

Unfortunately, there is very little chance that either Annie Moses (Granny) or Max Baer Jr (Jethro) will appear in the film. Both actors suffered from chronic health problems which were likely the cause of their deaths in 2011 and 1993 respectively. Although it would be great to see them on screen with their younger counterparts, I don’t think it’s worth getting our hopes up for this!

Who played Geraldine on Beverly Hillbillies?

During the nine years that The Beverly Hillbillies was on TV, no actress ever played the role of Geraldine. Actress Max Baer Jr. (Jethro), however, did play Geraldine in the original 1962 film version “in drag,” while Buddy Ebsen (Jed Clampett) and Nancy Kulp (Miss Hathaway) did some of the voice work for the cartoon Geraldine.

Who played Jenny on Beverly Hillbillies?

Elly May Clampett (Donna Douglas), who was Buddy Ebsen’s niece in real life, played Jed’s only child. Though many fans might not know her name, most will recognize her as the scantily clad, bubble gum-chewing blonde in a denim jumper and pigtails who turned Jethro’s head whenever she said “Shazam!”

Who played Daisy May on Beverly Hillbillies?

Daisy Mae (Donna Douglas) was Elly May’s cousin. She was a cute teenage country girl who dressed in her petticoat short enough to drive Jed crazy. Donna Douglas also did many of Daisy’s voice overs. In fact, when The Beverly Hillbillies went off the air in 1971, Donna Douglas provided the voice for Daisy Mae in a cartoon version called Daisy-Mae and Melvin. The cartoon continued for three years.

Who played Mr. Drysdale on Beverly Hillbillies?

Raymond Bailey (1897-1983) played the estate attorney and banker, Mr. Drysdale, for all nine seasons of The Beverly Hillbillies. In real life, Mr. Drysdale was Jed’s neighbor; on TV he was Jed’s boss.

Who played Jethrine on Beverly Hillbillies?

Miss Jane Hathaway (Nancy Kulp) on The Beverly Hillbillies had a twin sister, Jethrine (also Nancy Kulp). Miss Jane had only one “sister,” Jeannie, who appeared in four episodes of the series. There were even talks of spinning off a show with Jeannie as the lead character but nothing ever materialized from those spin- plans though some merchandising items were marketed under that proposed series title.

Who played Jethro Bodine on Beverly Hillbillies?

Max Baer Jr. (1934-2000) took over the role of Elly May’s boyfriend in 1963 after Buddy Ebsen left the show because he was allergic to the smoke used in Jed’s briar pipes. From 1962 to 1971, Max played another famous TV idiot, “Jethro” on The Beverly Hillbillies.

He reprised his “Jethro” character for several commercials in the 1970s and early 1980s including one ad he did for Miller Lite Beer that had him running through a field with two blonde models before giving his best manly shout of “Heyyyy!!!” Those commercials brought back memories of the original TV “Jethro” he played on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Who played Jethrine Bodine on Beverly Hillbillies?

After Max Baer Jr.’s departure, Cathy Lewis took over Jed’s dim-witted niece in 1972 for the next five seasons of The Beverly Hillbillies. Cathryn Kates portrays her. Cathy also played another one of Jed’s nieces in two episodes, Jeannie Eller (one episode in 1965 and another in 1966). Cathryn had previously appeared three years earlier in 1968 in an episode titled “The Return Of Elly May.”

Note: Everyone is correct about who plays which character on ‘The Beverly Hillbillies’. There were only 2 actresses that portrayed the other 3 Clampetts. Buddy Ebsen’s Niece, Donna Douglas, played the main character ‘Elly May’.

Max Baer Jr., who was Buddy Ebsen’s and Donna Douglas’ co-star in the original movie, portrayed Jethro for most of the series and Cathy Lewis wrote and directed some episodes . Nancy Kulp (most famous for portraying Miss Hathaway on The Beverly Hillbillies) also appeared in a few episodes as one of Jed’s nieces or neighbor Drysdale’s secretary.

The complete cast was: Buddy Ebsen (1908-2003), Irene Ryan (1897-1973), Donna Douglas (1926-2014), Raymond Bailey (1897-1983), Max Baer Jr. (1934-2000), Nancy Kulp (1921-1991) and Cathy Lewis (1923-1996).
